Our Come and Create band releases a new track, ‘Sea Sounds’

Wigmore Hall Learning’s ensemble for young people with Autism Spectrum Conditions has composed a new piece co-created together online

Come and Create, led by musicians Detta Danford and Luke Newby, have been working together to create their new piece, ‘Sea Sounds’. When the band moved online in July, members were initially inspired by a soundscape of the sea and co-created musical responses. The band members developed their ideas and recorded their contributions, which have been professionally edited into one finished track, guided by the participants.

One of the band describes the process perfectly:

"Because we haven't been together, we can't do recordings in the session together. Because of Zoom there's a delay so you can't really record something great through Zoom because it would be out of time. But what people have been doing is sending in recordings of themselves playing individual parts and then it's been layered with digital music software so then it will sound in time" Come and Create band member

You can listen here!

This is just one of the songs they have created together in online workshops. The band has been meeting fortnightly to make music together, inspired by their favourite objects, walking, and even a Christmas song!

On Saturday 12 December, the band hosted a special online listening party for parents, carers, and friends, at which we listened to the finished track and the band played some live music.

We look forward to continuing music making online with the group in January and returning to in-person sessions when it is safe to do so.
